Beefheart
One of the true pioneers of 20th century music has popped his clogs at the age of 69. Musician and artist Don Van Vliet who also went by the name Captain Beefheart died on December 17 2010. As a musician he was active between the mid 60's and early 80's before retiring from music to pursue a career in art.
His body of work remains unmatched in its courage and unmitigated creativity. He was a unique innovator and will remain a highly significant and incalculable influence on all of us who came under his spell.
No one has sounded like the Captain and his various Magic Band incarnations. They acheived some of the most original music put to record. The inimitable Captain's persona will remain almost transcendental in its scope.

Playing at the Roundhouse
On October 17 we will have the pleasure of opening for Seu Jorge at the Roundhouse, Camden. We will be playing new music from our forthcoming EP that evening and really looking forward to both playing and hopefully meeting the guys from Seu Jorge. Members of Naçao Zumbi a great Brazilian group led by the late Chico Science. Heavy heavy stuff, which I discovered in Bahia over 10 years ago. Very excited about that.
An added bonus is... having recently moved back to Camden, I am really looking forward to walk the whole 4 minutes from my flat to the historic Roundhouse with my guitar on my back and take part in what will be hopefully a really enjoyable night of music. HUP HO! dario +++

Croatia
Here is an interesting stat worked out after a Rakiya session at SMS festival at The Garden, Petrčane, Croatia: A festival by the sea, mainly compromising of electronic music. We provided some live music on Sunday afternoon on a lovely openair stage that resembled an amphitheatre.
The statistic is based on 4 to the floor house and techno music at an average of 128 BPM:
If listening/bopping whatever your choice of flex to the above; results show the following:
-1 hour would amount to 7,680 kick drums
-4 hours per night would make 30,720 kicks
-2 nights at a modest 4hours per session would total 61,440 kick drums
I havent mentioned drop outs and breakdowns. A pause amongst the headbang. Im guessing that would consist of 25% at the very most of total musical content. Still a lot of kick drums. Nuff bigups to Carl Craig who created some nice sonics thru the Funktion One sound system. Kept the hats ringing and the deep bass bumpin. respec
We enjoyed playing thru it too with our found backline of Marshall, EV, and old drumset. Was a really positive outing where we got to play some new tunes with a nice sound. Thanks for that

"I’ve never seen the need for this great split between success and failure that the pop industry is like. A bit like Hollywood-something’s either a smash or it’s a complete failure. The world of culture in my head that I come from isn’t anything to do with that. It’s to do with just people pegging away for a lifetime at their craft."

Firewater
Great gig at the Firewater Club at the end of MAy. An amazing start to the evening with a Tequila tasting had us nice and warm by the time we started. Was quite a novelty to go to a quiet club without loud music and sit around tasting authentic tequila offered and discussed by a firewater expert. Thankyou Jules for asking us to play we would love to come down again. BIG UPS!
